HUMBLE, Texas – Troy junior Clayton Vannoy fired a 2-under 70 to lead the Trojans on day two of the All-American Intercollegiate Saturday at the Golf Club of Houston. Vannoy is in fifth place individually, while Troy is tied for seventh place.
Vannoy traded a birdie for a bogey on the front nine to make the turn at even par. He quickly moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 No. 12 and dropped to 2-under with a birdie on the par-5 No. 15. He is just three shots back of Houston's Papito Gonzalez for the individual title.
Troy shot 4-over as a team, but once again shot itself in the foot at the end of the round. After taking on seven strokes on the final three holes yesterday, the Trojans counted two bogeys on No. 18 on Saturday.
The Trojans are tied with Charleston Southern for seventh place, but find themselves just three shots behind SMU for fifth and seven backs back of Baylor for fourth. Houston leads by 13 strokes over Arkansas (E), while South Carolina is third at 1-over.
Luke Moser made the turn at 1-under after three birdies and a double-bogey on the front nine, but carded a pair of bogeys on the back side of the course to finish 1-over on the day and tied for 24th place.
Jared Bettcher bogeyed two of his first five holes and then followed with a birdie on No. 6 before playing even over the final 12 holes of the day. He finished the round 1-over and is tied for 35th place. Cam Norman had one birdie on the day and shot a 4-over 76 to sit tied for 58th place, while Calum Masters had a pair of birdies, but finished 7-over and tied for 74th.
