Troy Shatters School Record; Trojans Lead SBC Preview After Two Rounds

MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida – Troy fired a 14-under par 270 in the second round of the Sun Belt Preview at the Raven Golf Course on Saturday; the round shattered the school record by six strokes. Three Trojans are in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard and Troy carries a six-shot lead over Georgia State and Georgia Southern into Sunday's final round.
Five of Troy's six golfers shot under par during the second round led by Clayton Vannoy's 5-under 66. Jared Bettcher was close behind with a 4-under 67, while Luke Moser carded a 3-under, Sean Stone was 2-under and Cam Norman was 1-under for the round. Calum Masters had a solid day for the Trojans as he shot a combined 1-over 143.
The previous low mark for a round in Troy history was a 276 set in 2009 and 2005; the best score in a fall tournament in school history was a 277 shot in 2004, 2011 and 1994.
Moser is 5-under through the first two rounds and finds himself in second place and just a shot back of Georgia State's J.J. Grey for the individual lead. Vannoy is three shots back of the lead in a tie for sixth place, while Bettcher is five shots back in a tie for ninth place.
The Trojans had 21 birdies and a pair of eagles in their record-setting round, additionally the six Trojans combined to shoot over par on just 10 holes. Moser leads the field with 12 birdies, while Bettcher has eight birdies and Vannoy has six.
Troy entered the second round in fifth place and four shots behind Georgia Southern, but the Trojans' second round was six shots better than anyone else in the field, 10 shots better than Georgia Southern and nine shots better than Georgia State.
Teams will play split tee times on Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Troy will be paired with Georgia Southern and Georgia State and will go off on No. 1 beginning at 8:24 a.m.
