Men’s Golf Hosts Sun Belt Preview Over the Weekend

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's golf team opens a stretch of six rounds in four days this weekend as it hosts the Sun Belt Preview at the Raven Golf Course in Miramar Beach, Fla.
Nine other Sun Belt teams will join Troy on the course that will host the Sun Belt Conference Championship in April. After 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday, the Trojans will then head up to Birmingham for the Shoal Creek Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
"It's not often in golf that you get to play back-to-back tournaments," Troy head coach Matt Terry said. "I'm excited to get these guys going and hopefully we can get some good momentum rolling and carry it through Tuesday. I'm anxious to see how we get out of the gate tomorrow; if we have a good day, it can lead to a stretch of four good days in a row."
The Trojans are coming off a seventh-place finish at The Invitational at The Ocean Course to open the season. Terry's lineup for that event featured three players who made their first career appearance as a Trojan.
"We've had a good couple weeks of practice," Terry said. "Looking back at Kiawah and the first five holes of the final day; if we play them better, we probably finish in the top three. It wasn't an awful finish by any means, but it wasn't what we wanted."
Teams will have a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, while Sunday will have split tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Troy's paring on Saturday will feature Georgia Southern and Georgia State – all three teams advanced to the NCAA Regionals last season.
"We qualified this week and it's the same six guys in the van as Kiawah," Terry said. "It's a great chance for us to see the golf course that will decide the conference championship, and winning that is one of our goals. It's also good to see how we stack up against the rest of the conference. Also, with Georgia Southern winning at Kiawah, it gives us a little fuel to get after them a little bit."
Troy's lineup will be the same as it was to open the season. Junior Cam Norman paced the Trojans in the season opener as he finished in ninth place after shooting a 4-over 220. Luke Moser tied for 19th as he carded a 7-over 223, while Clayton Vannoy tied for 25th with a 10-over 226. The rest of Troy's lineup includes Jared Bettcher, Calum Masters and Sean Stone.
