Troy Splits in Doubleheader with Texas State, Time Change For Finale

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Troy softball team split in a doubleheader with Texas State on Saturday at the Bobcat Softball Complex as they won the first game, 3-1 and dropped the second, 11-3.

Troy (25-18, 8-6 Sun Belt) tied its longest win streak of the season at seven with a win in the first game. Michelle Phelps went a combined 4-for-6 on the day with a home run, two doubles and drove in four of the Trojans six runs.

Texas State (23-19, 7-6 Sun Belt) won the second game as seven different Bobcat players drove in at least one run in the second game.

Jaycee Affeldt (13-6) got the win with a stellar performance as she pitched a complete game and only allowed one run on two hits and struck out eight.
Â
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, Michelle Phelps tied the game as she roped a double down the left field line to score Hannah Day, who led off the inning with a double. Amanda Winters reached on a dropped fly ball by the Bobcat right fielder and Phelps scored to take the lead, 2-1.

Troy added one more run to its lead in the top of the fifth as Day scored on a Phelps single to left field, for her second RBI of the game.

Day went 2-for-3 with a double and a single and Becca Hartley also had a hit.
Â
Both Affeldt and Randi Rupp, the Texas State pitcher, combined for 22 strikeouts in the game.

Troy scored two runs in the top of the first inning as Phelps hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

With the game tied at two in the top of the second inning, Erica Davis belted a home run over the left field wall, the first of her career; that gave the Trojans a 3-2 lead.

Texas State scored three runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Bobcats extended their lead in the fourth inning as Lexi Fryer hit an RBI bunt single to give the Bobcats a 6-3 lead. Ariel Ortiz added two more with a home run to left center field. Kendall Wiley gave Texas State a 9-3 lead as she hit an RBI single up the middle that ended the scoring for the inning.

The Bobcats scored one more in the fifth and another in the sixth to win, 11-3.

Jaycee Affeldt (13-7) suffered the loss as she got the start in the circle. Sara Mock, Meg Willis and Sarah Thomas all made pitching appearances in the game.

The series finale was scheduled for Sunday at noon, but has been moved up to 11 a.m.
