Reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Kiley Huffman hit a towering home run to right field in the top of the first inning, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Makaley Boswell also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, swatting an RBI double and logging an RBI single.
Mia Tidmore kept a hot bat, getting multiple hits for the third straight contest. Additionally, Kalee Rochinski blasted a seventh-inning homer and drew two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
For the second straight game, the Trojans blasted a first-inning home run. Huffman teed off on a pitch to right field, putting Troy up 1-0 with her solo shot. The Ragin' Cajuns capitalized off two Troy errors in the bottom half, scoring four before Ella Cunningham exited the game.
Mya Holt entered in relief, and Louisiana added four more to make it 8-1. She hung a zero in the second inning with the help of a double play.
The Trojans scored again in the third, with Boswell crushing an RBI double into the left-center field gap to score Megan Loftis. Cunningham nearly had a three-run homer but settled for a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3 as the Louisiana right fielder pulled it back. Troy added one more in the inning on an error.
Louisiana fought back in the bottom half, making it 11-4 before Emma Banks entered the game. The Trojans added two more in the fourth, scoring on a Boswell single and Huffman groundout to make it 11-6.
Savannah Money escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning and struck out two in a perfect fifth inning. She worked around two hits in the sixth to hang another zero. Although Rochinski homered in the seventh, Louisiana ended the game.
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"It was a frustrating day. We buried ourselves with the eight-run first inning and kind of found ourselves climbing, and that is incredibly frustrating. There were too many free passes in the circle and defensively we made some mistakes, and it cost us. We responded well and threaded a lot of positives in that game as well. Offensively, we either won or tied six of the seven innings, and it was just the bad first inning that cost us the game."
