No. 62 Troy Wins at Furman

GREENVILLE, South Carolina – The 62nd-ranked Troy men's tennis played with its new ranking for the first time and won a very close road match, 4-3, over Furman at the Mickel Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Troy (12-5) got a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the opening point. After falling at No. 2 doubles, Giovani Samaha and Austin Racice won at No. 3 and Hassan Ndayishimye and Gabriel Dias won at No.1 to give Troy the 1-0 lead that proved pivotal.
Furman (2-10) quickly tied the match with a straight set win at No. 1 singles. After Ndayishimye beat Matt Browne, 6-4, 7-6 (3), at No. 2 singles, Furman again tied the match with a win at No. 3 singles.
Pablo Moreno then gave Troy the lead when he beat Ben Horst in three sets at No. 4 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Troy held a 3-2 lead when the final two singles matches began, but Furman pulled even again with a win at No. 5 singles.
That turned all of the attention to court No. 6 where Samaha gave Troy the win with a couple of tight sets over Luke Synn, 7-5, 7-5. Complete results from the match are below.
Troy will make a quick turnaround as it travels to Atlanta to take on Emory on Saturday. The Eagles, the No. 5 NCAA Division III team in the nation, and the Trojans will begin at 11 a.m. CT.
