No. 62 Troy Runs Win Streak to Six Straight

TROY, Alabama – The 62nd-ranked Troy men's tennis team opened the Trojan Invitational Shootout with its sixth straight win, beating Xavier (La.), 5-1, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
Troy (16-5) cruised to the a doubles sweep, dropping just six combined games against the No. 6 team in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll. Gabriel Dias and Hassan Ndayishimye posted a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles to open things up, beating the NAIA's 6th-ranked doubles team. The Troy No. 2 and No. 3 doubles team each won 6-3 to close out the opening point.
In singles play, Daniel Bustamante gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead as he beat Tushar Mandlekar, the 33rd-ranked NAIA singles player, at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Andy Lau moved the score to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Joradn Harrell at No. 3 singles.
Xavier (La.) (9-4) got on the board with a win at No. 5 singles, but Dias soon after clinched the match. Dias, playing at No. 2 singles, beat the 16th-ranked NAIA player, Nikita Soifer, 6-4, 6-4.
Ndayishimye beat the 12th-ranked NAIA player, Kyle Montreal, at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, to close the scoring for the Trojans. Complete results are below.
Troy continues play at the Trojan Invitational Shootout on Saturday when it hosts Alcorn State at 11 a.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
