3/19/2015 3:00:00 PM | Tennis (M)
TROY, Alabama – The 62nd-ranked Troy men's tennis team will play three matches as part of the Trojan Invitational Shootout at the Lunsford Tennis Complex this weekend. The tournament will feature four teams and five matches, with Troy being involved in three of the matches.
Troy will first host Xavier (La.) on Friday at 3 p.m. The Trojans will then host Alcorn State at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Columbus State at 10 a.m. on Sunday. There will be two other matches on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. that don't involve Troy.
Troy (15-5) has won five straight matches and 14 of its last 16 matches. The only two losses during the stretch have been 4-3 decisions to No. 19 Ole Miss and No. 20 Tennessee. Despite two wins last week, the Trojans dropped four spots in the ITA National Team Rankings, from 58th to 62nd, but are still the top-ranked team in the Sun Belt.
The Trojans are led in singles play by Hassan Ndayishimye who has posted a 13-4 record this spring. Pablo Moreno and Giovani Samaha have also won double-digit matches as they are 11-4 and 12-3 in singles play, respectively.
Xavier (La.) (8-3) is the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Gold Rush lost their most recent match, 4-3, against Nicholls State, and travel to face fellow NAIA Top-25 program William Carey on Thursday.
Alcorn state (6-8) lost its last match, 4-1, against South Dakota State. The Braves are 4-0 in SWAC matches.
Columbus State (9-1) is the sixth-ranked team in the NCAA Division II ITA National Team Rankings. The Cougars haven't played in nearly 10 days since an 8-1 win over Division II No. 27 Southern Indiana.
