No. 58 Troy Wins Pair, Runs Streak to Five

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – The 58th-ranked Troy men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches on Sunday with a pair of wins at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The Trojans first beat Kennesaw State, 4-2, then blanked Alabama State, 4-0.
Troy (15-5) started the by losing the doubles point to Kennesaw State (5-6), but rebounded to dominate singles play. Pablo Moreno got the Trojans back in the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Troy then quickly moved ahead 3-1 as Giovani Samana won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and Daniel Bustamante won at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4. After the Owls won in three sets at No. 6, Andy Lau got a three-set win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 6-0, to give the Trojans a 4-2 win.
In a road match against Alabama State (2-13), the Trojans cruised, beginning with 6-0 and 6-4 doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to open up the scoring.
After taking the 1-0 lead, Troy quickly dispatched the Hornets in singles play, dropping six games in the three matches that went final. Moreno won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. At the bottom of the lineup, Daniel Bustamante won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Calum McKinlay won at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1. Complete results from both matches are below.
The Trojans return to the court this weekend when they host Trojan Invitational Shootout at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
