Troy Women's Tennis Completes Friday Sweep of Nicholls

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team opened its portion of the Troy Trojan Jamboree with a 4-3 win over Nicholls on Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The win gave the Troy tennis programs a sweep of Nicholls after the Troy men also beat the Colonels earlier in the day.

The Troy women (3-4) ended their small two-game skid by coming out strong in doubles, taking No. 1 and No. 3 quickly to take a 1-0 lead. Sanae Ohta and Brooke Durden first won at No. 3, 6-0. They did so just ahead of Trang Huynh Anja Cosovic who won at No. 1, 6-2.

Huynh gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead as she cruised past Stephanie Barnett at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Â After a Nicholls (3-2) win at No. 2, Margot De Hann for Troy was forced to retire at No. 6 and the Colonels drew even at 2-2.

The Colonels won at No. 3 to take the 3-2 lead, but Jiayuan Xue tied it up for Troy with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Milou Pietersz at No. 4 singles. That set the stage for Linnea Skymberg who clinched the match for Troy after a second-set tiebreak thriller, 6-4, 7-6 (8).

Complete results are below. The Trojans will close the women's portion of the Troy Trojan Jamboree tomorrow when they take on Alabama A&M.
