Trojans Win Pair of Road Matches

DeLAND, Florida and DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The Troy men's tennis team won a pair of road matches on Saturday as the Trojans defeated Stetson in the morning, 4-1, before making the short drive to beat Bethune-Cookman, 6-1, in the afternoon.
Troy (8-4) has now won three straight matches. Three of the Trojans four losses on the season have come on the road at ranked opponents.
Against Stetson (2-3), Pablo Moreno and Andy Lau won a tight, 7-5, decision at No.1 doubles to clinch the opening point. The top of the singles lineup then gave Troy a 3-0 lead, beginning with Hassan Ndayishimye's win at No.2 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Gabriel Dias, the 89th-ranked singles player in the nation, then won at No. 1 over Kevin Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-3. Stetson picked up its lone point with a win at No. 3 singles before Daniel Bustamante clinched the match for Troy with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Against Bethune-Cookman (1-4), Troy dropped just four combined games at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening points. Troy again quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead, this time with wins at No. 3 and No. 5.
Andy Lau got the first win as he took a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles. Moreno won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 to give Troy the 3-0 lead. Bethune Cookman won its lone match at No. 6 to stay alive, 3-1.
Bustamante again clinched the match for Troy with his 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. Dias and Ndayishimye also picked up straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, to close out the scoring.
The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they host Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Center. The Troy women's tennis team will also host Jacksonville State at 2 p.m.
