Troy Heads to Dothan Civic Center Thursday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team looks to snap a two-game skid as it travels to the Dothan Civic Center to face Paine College on Thursday night. The Trojans and Lions are slated to tip at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the Dothan Civic Center, DothanCivicCenter.org, Etix.com or by calling (334) 615-3175. Tickets for the game are $15 for the lower bowl, $10 for the upper bowl and $6 with a valid Troy student ID.

Troy (4-5) looks to remain perfect at the Civic Center, as it will be playing in Dothan for the second straight season. Last year, the Trojans cruised to an 80-63 win over Fort Valley State. In the win, John Walton III led all returners with 10 points and seven boards.

Wesley Person, who is no stranger to the Dothan Civic Center, played four high school games there, and scored 138 points, averaging 34.5 points per contest. Against Fort Valley State in 2014, Person tallied eight points and four rebounds. Kelton Ford also added eight points for the Trojans along with two rebounds in the win.

Troy heads to Dothan following a pair of losses - the last on the road at Seton Hall, 78-69. In the loss, Jordon Varnado shined as he poured in 25 points, narrowly missing a career-high, on his way to his fifth career double-double, as he also reeled in 11 rebounds. Varnado shot 9-of-13 on the night, including a 5-of-6 showing from long range. In the nation, Varnado currently ranks fourth amongst all freshmen in points per contest, averaging a team-best 17.9 points per game.

Wesley Person and Jeremy Hollimon also tallied double figures, with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Troy shot a season-best 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from 3-point range at Seton Hall, the best showing since it played on the road at Florida Atlantic in February 2012, when it shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14).

Paine College (2-8) comes to Troy after being slightly edged by Lane College, 77-76, on December 7. The Lions are led by Denzel Dillingham, who averages 27.1 points per contest in thanks to shooting 52.4 percent (88-of-168) from the floor. Arnis Libazs and Raheim Connelly are also averaging double-digit points with 16.5 and 14.0 per game, respectively. The squad averages 86.5 points per game this season. On the glass, Don Quarles averages 7.7 rebounds per game to lead Paine.

The team returns seven of its players, including three starters, who finished last year 23-6, including a first place finish in the SIAC East with a 17-2 record.
