Trojans Add Afonso Pacheco to 2026-27 Roster

TROY, Ala. - Troy men's basketball added center Afonso Pacheco to the 2026-27 roster, head coach Adam Howard announced Thursday.Â
Pacheco spent the past two seasons playing for E.C. Pinheiros, where he helped his team to a 30-8 record in the NBB in 2025-26, Brazil's first division basketball league. Pacheco averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game while helping Pinheiros finish as the NBB runner-up.Â
"Afonso has proven he can impact winning through efficiency, toughness, and rebounding", Howard said. "He finishes at an elite level around the basket and brings a physical presence that fits exactly how we want to play. We believe his best basketball is still ahead of him, and we're excited to help him continue his development at Troy."Â
The Rio de Janeiro native spent four seasons competing in Brazil's U22 league, highlighted by a 2024 campaign with São José Basketball in which he averaged a double-double with 12.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. He also recorded 21 points and 26 rebounds in a single game, with the 26 boards tied for the fourth-highest single-game rebounding total in league history.Â
His squad won the 2025 U22 Brazilian League championship following a 9-1 campaign, in which Pacheco scored 7.9 ppg.Â
Pacheco also spent time with NBB club São José Basketball from 2022-24, appearing in 18 first-division contests.Â
