Men’s Basketball Names Bryen Spriggs Assistant Coach

TROY, Ala. - Troy men's basketball has finalized its coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season with the addition of assistant coach Bryen Spriggs.
Spriggs joins the Trojans after a five-year stint with UTEP, where he assisted in three winning seasons and a run to the 2024 Conference USA Tournament Championship game. UTEP led the nation in steals per game (11.4) and turnovers forced per game (18.7) during the 2023-24 season.
"I am really excited to announce Bryen Spriggs as an assistant coach for us here at Troy," head coach Adam Howard said. "Bryen has a ton of experience throughout his career, including being a head coach in his home state of Pennsylvania. He's as connected as they come, and his relationships along with his work ethic will bring immediate and future success to our program."
Spriggs helped the Miners record their first 20-win season in seven years during the 2021-22 campaign. UTEP also earned its first postseason berth since 2015, earning a bid to The Basketball Classic, where the Miners defeated Western Illinois for their first postseason victory since 2009.
Prior to UTEP, Spriggs spent a season at Abilene Christian, serving as a special assistant to the head coach. The Wildcats went 24-5 overall and 13-2 in Southland Conference play en route to capturing the Southland Tournament championship. ACU then upset No. 3-seeded Texas, 53-52, in the NCAA Tournament for the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
"Since the moment I stepped onto Troy's campus, I could feel the pride and standard of excellence that defines the university," Spriggs said. "Having the opportunity to learn from and build alongside Coach Howard made this a complete no-brainer for me. His vision for the program and genuine care for the young men on the team is exactly what you want to be a part of."
Spriggs was the head coach at the Community College of Beaver County in Monaca, Pa., from 2017-20, where he also served as athletic director. During his three seasons at CCBC, the Titans compiled a 75-12 record, captured two WPCC championships, and produced nine all-conference selections.
Prior to this, Spriggs held assistant coach positions at Mineral Area College in Missouri (2016-17), and Lincoln Trail Community College in Illinois (2015-16).
Spriggs has also held a variety of roles throughout his career, both in and out of basketball, including assistant director of admissions at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh (2014-15), assistant coach and drug and alcohol counselor at Summit Academy School for Boys in Herman, Pa. (2013-14), case manager at Franklin County Children Services in Columbus, Ohio (2013), and criminal justice professor and assistant coach at Marshalltown Community College in Iowa (2012-13).
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Spriggs played at Slippery Rock University for two seasons (2008-10), while spending two as graduate assistants (2010-12).
Spriggs earned a bachelor's degree in professional studies with a concentration in sport management and a master's degree in criminal justice from Slippery Rock University.
