Troy Tennis Completes Day One at Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Georgia – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams both completed the first round and round of 16 in multiple draws at the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Friday. In all, the Trojans had 14 singles players or doubles teams advance into Saturday's quarterfinals.
The Trojans will play quarterfinals and consolation matches on Saturday, while semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday.
For the Troy men, six singles players advanced into the quarterfinals in three different singles draws. The Trojans also had one doubles team advance into the quarterfinals.
For the Troy women, four players advanced into the quarterfinals in four different singles draws. The Trojans had all three of their doubles teams advance into the quarterfinals in two different draws.
In the top singles flight on the men's side, Vaclav Slezak and Francisco Yim Kim each won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals. The pair of newcomers are two of seven Trojans coming off an appearance at the ITA Men's All-American Championships last weekend. In the top men's doubles flight, Andy Lau and Stjepan Cagalj won twice and will play in Saturday's quarterfinals.
In the women's top singles flight, Sanae Ohta won her round of 16 match in straight sets and will be the lone Trojan in Saturday's quarterfinals. In the women's top doubles flight, teams of Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina along with Nancy Karaky and Ohta give Troy two of the flight's eight quarterfinalists.
