Troy Begins Play at Big Easy Tennis Classic

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Both the Troy men's and women's tennis teams begin play at the Big Easy Tennis Classic on Friday. The event continues on Saturday in what is scheduled to be the final day of the tournament, which is hosted by New Orleans.
The Troy women, with four players entered into the tournament, picked up four singles wins and three doubles wins on the day. Luisa Ferrauti highlighted singles play with two wins to advance to the Flight 6 semifinals.
In doubles play, Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky won twice and are now in Saturday's quarterfinals.
The Troy men, who entered 10 players into the tournament, grabbed 14 singles wins. Daniel Bustamante is already into the finals of Flight 2 with a pair of wins. Meanwhile, Vaclav Slezak earned a semifinal spot in Flight 3 with two wins.
Flight 6 is where the Trojans really shined as all four players in Saturday's semifinals are Trojans. Austin Racine had a first-round bye and needed just one win to advance to that stage. Sam Bird and Calum McKinlay each won two matches to reach the semifinals, with McKinlay's quarterfinal win coming over teammate Jeremy Braud. Andre Baldo is the fourth Trojan in the semifinals as he won a first-round match then beat teammate Tomas Fernandez by default.
