Trojans Drop Two on Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Troy women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, falling at No. 13 Clemson and to Charleston Southern on a neutral court at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center.
Troy (1-2) was swept by the nationally ranked Tigers, but seemed poised to knock off Charleston Southern. The Trojans won the doubles point against the Buccaneers, but CSU (1-0) fought back in singles to take the match.
Just two hours after the Clemson match, Troy returned to the floor against Charleston Southern who was playing its first match of the day. The Trojans and Buccaneers found themselves locked into a four-hour battle.
Troy's No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams won to take the opening point, but CSU won the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Troy's Anja Cosovic then won at No. 3 to tie things up.
The Buccaneers then won two tight matches to take the win. Troy lost at No. 1 singles in a super tiebreaker and lost at No. 6 singles in a second-set tiebreaker.
Against Clemson (1-0), Troy was forced to play with just five players due to injury, therefore forfeiting one doubles and one singles match to the Tigers. Clemson won one other doubles match to take the opening point. The Tigers then won at No. 1 and No. 4 to take the match.
"Despite the losses, this weekend was a good start to our season," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "These are good teams within their conferences and matches like these help us prepare for next weekend's conference match against Georgia State."
The Trojans travel to Atlanta next Saturday to take on the Panthers.
