Trojans Extend Streak with Quality Win

FT. WALTON BEACH, Fla. – The Troy women's tennis team extended its current winning streak to seven matches with a quality, 4-1, win over Eastern Kentucky on a neutral court at the Ft. Walton Beach Tennis Center on Tuesday morning.
Troy (11-4) has not lost in nearly a month, and extended its streak on Tuesday against a team that won the Ohio Valley Conference last season and played UCLA in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament.
“This was a solid win for us today,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “EKU was an NCAA Tournament team last season and beat Louisville just a couple of weeks ago. Our girls did a great job.”
The Trojans started with a dominant doubles point, winning at second doubles 8-1 and at first doubles 8-4 to clinch the opening point. At third doubles, Troy's Candela Munoz Giron and Anja Cosovic were up 6-5, but did not finish their match, leaving the pair at a perfect 6-0 on the season.
Hannah Toro put Troy on the board first in singles play with a shutout, 6-0, 6-0, win at fourth singles. Toro was playing in her first singles match in a month due to injury.
Cosovic moved her singles, dual match record to 11-4 this season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles that pushed Troy ahead 3-0. However, EKU (7-5) got on the board with a win at second singles.
Karoline Grymel clinched the match for Troy at first singles with a three-set win, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 over EKU's Amandine Faouzi. Grymel has now won five straight singles matches after starting the year 2-8 in dual match singles play.
Complete results for Tuesday's match are below. Troy returns to the court Thursday with another neutral court match, this one against Lamar in Mobile, Ala.
