MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team will put its seven-match winning streak on the line Thursday as it faces Lamar in a neutral site match. The Trojans and Cardinals are set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on South Alabama's campus.
Troy (11-4) has not lost in nearly a month, with the most recent win coming against Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. The Colonels are the defending Ohio Valley Conference champions, but Troy had no problem in the 4-1 win. The Trojans are 3-0 in neutral court matches this season.
Troy has two players, Candela Munoz Giron and Olivia Brooke Durden, who have won six straight singles matches. Durden is 6-1 in dual match singles play this season, but did not compete against EKU as Hannah Toro returned from injury with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Karoline Grymel, Troy's No.1 singles player has won five straight matches, despite starting the season 2-8 in singles play in dual matches.
The Trojans have been dominate in doubles play during their winning streak, having won 18 straight doubles matches dating back to their last loss, at UAB in mid-February. Troy is a combined 24-11 in dual match doubles play this season.
Lamar (4-5) comes into Thursday having lost its last match, a 5-2 decision at South Alabama on Tuesday. The Cardinals have played three other Sun Belt opponents this season, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State while falling to North Texas.
