Trojans Run Winning Streak to Eight

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team ran its current winning streak to eight matches with a 4-2 victory over Lamar on a neutral court on Thursday.
Troy (12-4) has not lost in over a month and needed a tough effort to extend the streak on Thursday at the Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on South Alabama's campus.
Troy lost Hannah Toro to injury in doubles play, forcing most Trojans to play up a spot in the lineup, but Troy still managed to erase a 2-1 deficit and win 4-2 over the Cardinals.
“Today was a very gutsy effort,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “We lost Hannah to injury, plus Anja (Cosovic) wasn't feeling good.
“This team is starting to form an identity. We have found a way to comeback in a match we were losing and the team grew up emotionally a little more today.”
The gutsy effort for Troy began with Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva at first doubles. The pair was down 5-2, but came back to win 8-6, clinching the opening point for Troy.
However, with Toro being scratched from the third spot in the lineup, four of Troy's singles players were forced to play up one spot in the Trojan lineup. Lamar (4-6) was able to win at fifth and sixth singles, taking a 2-1 lead, but Troy fought back.
Dorofeeva won at second singles, 6-2, 6-4, to tie the score before a pair of three-set matches went Troy's way.
Grymel was on the brink for the second time on the day, but fought off three match points in the third set of a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win at first singles, setting the stage for Anja Cosovic.
Cosovic, who was fighting illness as Hayes said, was able to overcome a poor second set in a 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 win at third singles to clinch the match for Troy.
The Trojans now a two-week break before they return to the court on March 29 to take on South Alabama.
