Match Slips Away From Troy at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Troy women's tennis team rebounded from a tough doubles point, but let some singles leads slip away in a 5-2 loss at UCF on Friday.

Troy (2-2) was swept in doubles competition, but started singles play strong, winning three first sets and leading in two others. However, UCF (4-1) closed out the matches when it counted, winning two of three three-set matches.

The Golden Knights took straight set matches at third and fifth singles to take a 3-1 lead. Troy's early point came from Anja Cosovic at fourth singles as the freshman defeated Courtney Griffith in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Cosovic is now 3-1 in singles play this spring, including three straight wins.

The remaining three matches all went to three sets, but Troy needed to win all three to come away with a victory, and could only manage one win.

UCF clinched the match at first singles where Troy's Karoline Grymel won the first set, but couldn't hold on and lost in a third-set tiebreaker to Genevieve Lorbergs, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Troy's second win of the day came at second singles where Hannah Toro continued to roll and defeated UCF's Jenna Doerfler, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Like Cosovic, the sophomore Toro is playing in the first dual matches of her career and has posted a 3-1 singles record, including three straight wins.

Rosaura Ramirez-Vega dropped the final match of the day, falling at sixth singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
