Trojans Dominate Singles Play in Win
2/16/2013 4:55:00 PM | Tennis (W)
TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team dropped the opening point, but dominated singles play and defeated Samford, 5-2, in the Trojans home opener on Saturday.
Troy (4-3) opened the season with six straight matches on the road, but opened its home schedule in a big way on Saturday. Troy's win revenged a 6-1 loss to the Bulldogs last season.
The Trojans were forced to shuffle their lineup due to injury, but the new look paid off in a big way. After dropping the double points with two 8-6 losses, Troy nearly swept singles play, with the lone loss coming at first singles in three sets.
All five of Troy's wins came in straight sets with just one set going to a tiebreaker.
Troy has a quick turnaround as the Trojans travel to UAB for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday. Complete results on Saturday's match are below.
