Trojans Drop 4-3 Decision at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but couldn't hold on in a 4-3 defeat at UAB that lasted over five hours.

Troy (4-4) took command with two doubles wins to clinch the opening point, followed by two singles wins, but UAB (5-1) rallied to win the remaining four singles matches, including a three-set match, to claim the victory.

The three-set match came at first singles where Troy's Karoline Grymel won the first set over UAB's Isabel Fernandez, but couldn't hold on in a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 defeat. That match tied the score at 3-3 and a win at fourth singles for UAB gave the Blazers the match.

The Trojans, playing their second match in as many days, won at second and third doubles to take the opening point. They then got a dominating win at fifth singles from Rosaura Ramirez-Vega, 6-2, 6-1.

Troy's Anja Cosovic continued to play well, this time at third singles where she won 7-5, 6-2 to push the Troy lead to 3-0. Cosovic, a freshman, is now 6-2 in dual matches this spring, including a 2-0 mark in the third spot.

UAB would win at second and sixth singles to set up the final two matches. Troy again played without Hannah Toro who played the Trojans' first six matches in the second spot in the singles lineup.

Complete results from Sunday's match are below. The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they host Georgia Southern at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy.
