Trojans Fall in Regular Season Finale

TROY, Ala.-- The Troy women's tennis team closed out its schedule, Sunday, against North Texas at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Senior Day.

In Gabriella Veiga and Olfa Dhaoui's final match at home, the Trojans put up a fight, but the Mean Green, ranked 67th in the nation, left the court with a 7-0 victory.

The Trojans started off strong in doubles play with a victory from the 89th ranked duo of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva, as they defeated Valentina Starkova and Kseniya Bardabush, 8-2. However, the Trojans fell in both remaining doubles matches 8-3, which resulted in the first point for North Texas.

During singles play, Troy fought for every point, but came up short in the end.

First off the court was number six singles player, Rosaura Ramirez Vega for Troy. However, she was defeated by Paula Dinuta, 6-0, 6-2, while teammate Dorofeeva was struggling against Nadia Lee, which also resulted in a Mean Green point, 6-2, 6-0.

With just one point left to seal the match for North Texas, the Trojans continued to push themselves, but the defeat of Samya El Hsissen 7-5, 6-3, sealed the match for the Mean Green.

The Trojans will move on to Denton, Texas next week for the Sun Belt Conference Championships, which begin on Thursday. Brackets for the tournament will be released on Tuesday.
