DENTON, Texas – The Troy women's tennis team had no problems advancing to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championships as they cruised to a 4-0, first-round victory over UALR on Thursday morning.

Troy, the seventh seed in the tournament, dropped one match in doubles play to No.10 UALR, but captured the point with wins at numbers one and three, and cruised in singles play for the shutout win.

The Trojans (11-9) now take on No.2 FIU on Friday at 8:00 a.m. FIU (5-14) received a bye into the quarterfinals thanks to a tough strength of schedule that saw 11 of their 14 losses come to nationally ranked teams.

Troy got the very important doubles point over UALR (13-13), despite falling behind early with an 8-1 loss at number two doubles. Candela Munoz Giron and Olfa Dhaoui kept the Trojans in it with an 8-3 win at number three to tie things up.

Troy's All-Sun Belt doubles team of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva clinched the point for the Trojans with an 8-6 victory at number one doubles.

As the two sides moved into singles play, Troy took command, easily winning the three points necessary to take the first round victory at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

Dhaoui won at number three for the Trojans, 6-0, 6-1, while Rosaura Ramirez-Vega won by the same score at number six.

Munoz Giron took her match at number four, 6-2, 6-1, and that gave Troy the 4-0 win.

Matches featuring Troy's Grymel, Dorofeeva and Samya El Hsissen were all unfinished.
