Women's Tennis Falls to Middle Tennessee

TROY, Ala.—The Troy women's tennis team fought hard in a five-hour match agianst Middle Tennessee, but was unable to walk away with a victory Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, falling to the Blue Raiders, 4-3.

The Trojans' 89th ranked duo of Lyubov Dorofeeva and Karoline Grymel fell in a tight match against MT's Lexi Brand and Nayara Moraes at number one doubles, 9-7, while Olfa Dhaoui and Candela Munoz Giron dominated the number three doubles team of Alex Dachos and Flavia Nagayama, 8-4.

With the doubles point still up for the taking, the Blue Raiders' Marietta Bigus and Yuiri Nomoto defeated the Trojan duo of Samya El Hsissen and Gabrielle Veiga, 8-4, giving the Blue Raiders the first point of the match.

Although the Trojans lost the first point, they continued to fight hard during singles play.

At the number three spot for Troy, Dhaoui came out strong and easily defeated Nagayama, 6-1, 6-1 to give Troy its first point of the match.

However, the next two slots off the court resulted in a victory for the Blue Raiders, as Brand defeated Dorofeeva 6-3, 6-1 and Bigus defeated El Hsissen 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

With the match on the line, Troy's number one player, Gymel kept the Trojans alive with her victory over Nomoto, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.

Nevertheless, the Blue Raiders fought hard for the next point, and the number six slot of Coffey defeated Veiga 7-5, 6-7, (7-3).

Although Middle Tennessee walked away with the victory, the hardest fight of the match resulted in a Trojan point. At number four singles, Munoz fought in a two-hour game versus Moraes, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, (7-4).

The Trojans return to action at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Sunday as the women complete their home season against North Texas at 10 a.m.
