Trojans Close Out Weekend in Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Troy women's tennis team has completed their weekend at the Clemson Winter Indoor Classic, where once again, they faced some of the nation's toughest competition.

The three-day event featured four teams in a round-robin format. In addition to the Trojans, the event included Clemson, the 15th-ranked team in the nation, Charleston Southern and Armstrong Atlantic, the 3rd-ranked Division II team in the nation.

The Trojans picked up multiple wins on the weekend, including one in their first match on Friday when Troy's top doubles pair of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva knocked off Charleston Southern's top team, 8-5.

Saturday proved to be a tough day as the Trojans took on Clemson in the doubles flight and Armstrong Atlantic in the singles flight. Despite not winning a match, the Trojans had a good showing, especially from newcomer Samya El Hsissen.

The freshman, playing in the number six singles spot, was the only Trojan to force a third set on the day. Although El Hsissen fell in the third-set super-tiebreaker, the strong effort set her up for success on Sunday.

El Hsissen moved up to the fifth spot in the lineup on Sunday and picked up one of three Troy wins on the day as she took out Charleston Southern's Alesansdra Walters, 7-5, 6-2.

Also picking up a win over the Bucs in singles action was Lyubov Dorofeeva who cruised through her match at number two singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Troy's third win on Sunday came in doubles action as Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega defeated Armstrong Atlantic at number three doubles, 8-6.
