Troy Tops Kennesaw State at Home

TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's tennis team returned to the Lunsford Tennis Complex, defeating Kennesaw State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans (2-4) started the day off quickly, capturing two doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead over the Owls (3-2).

The number three team for Troy, Olfa Dhauoi and Rosaura Ramirez- Vega, was the first off the court, defeating Therese Lagerkvist and Tamara Plocher, 8-2.

The doubles point was hotly contested after the number two team for the Owl's, Virginie Stein and Jana Hueckinghaus, defeated Candela Munoz Giron and Samya El Hsissen, 8-4. However, the Trojans' number one team of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva clinched the doubles point with the victory over KSU's Vera Shkundina and Alexandra Apostu, 8-4.

In singles play, the Trojans quickly grabbed the three points needed to clinch the match.

At number four, Giron defeated Hueckinghaus in straight-set fashion, 6-0, 6-2. Meanwhile, Ramirez-Vega picked up a win for the Trojans as she took out KSU's Plocher 6-3, 6-4, at number six singles.

El Hsissen competed in the number five spot for Troy and defeated Lagerkvist 6-1, 6-4, to seal the match for the Trojans.

At number two, Lyubov struggled against Kennesaw's Apostu, giving up the only loss in singles play 6-3, 6-2.

Troy's Dhaoui defeated Stein, 6-4, 7-5, in the number three spot, while Grymel took out the Owl's top slot of Shkundina, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 to close out the match.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday as they will host two matches, beginning with Alabama State with 9:00 a.m. and finishing with Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
