TROY defeats in-state foe UAB on the road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University women's tennis team ran their win streak to five as they defeated in-state foe UAB 4-3 on the road Saturday afternoon.

TROY (10-12) jumped ahead early in the match as the claimed the doubles point behind two big wins from number two and three doubles. The number two team of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosauara Ramirez-Vega claimed an 8-4 victory over UAB's Jenny Cape and Giorgia Romeo; while the number three team of Olivia Battye and Lyubov Dorafeeva claimed an 8-4 victory over UAB's Brittany DeFelice and Caroline Faught to claim the point for the Trojans.

The number one team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt had their winning streak snapped at number one, as they fell to UAB's Paula Alvarez and Evelien Strikjer 8-6.

In singles play, the Trojans wrapped up the match as they clinched the victory with two matches still remaining on the court. Grymel won at number one singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Romeo; while Guijt also avenged her double defeat with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Alvarez at number three singles. The other victory for the Trojans came at number four where Dorafeeva claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory over UAB's Cape.

The Trojans dropped three matches in singles play, with two of those matches going three sets. The two matches were at number five and six, where the matches were decided in a pro set in the third as the outcome of the overall match had already been determined.

TROY puts their winning streak on the line as they close out the regular season on the road in Denton, Texas; facing Middle Tennessee on a neutral court on next Saturday, before facing North Texas on their home courts next Sunday.
