TROY, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University women's tennis team will close out the regular season on the road against Sun Belt Conference foes Middle Tennessee and North Texas this weekend, and begin preparations for the conference tournament which starts next week.
TROY (10-12) maybe the second hottest team in the Sun Belt Conference at this juncture in the season, having won five consecutive matches heading into the weekend. The Trojans have not lost since dropping back-to-back matches against nationally-ranked opponents, Auburn and ULM (both on the road).
During this stretch, TROY has defeated three Sun Belt Conference teams – Arkansas State, UALR and South Alabama – while also beating two in-state schools in UAB and Jacksonville State.
Karoline Grymel has reeled off five consecutive victories at the number one position for the Trojans, winning four of those five in straight sets. She has also won seven of her last eight matches with the only loss coming against Claire Clarke of ULM back on March 27. The streak has pushed her record to 13-9, and she is 18-16 overall dating back to the fall.
However, she is not the hottest player on the Trojans' squad at this point, as that honor belongs to her doubles partner Leonie Guijt. The senior has reeled six consecutive victories at number three singles, with her last loss coming March 19 to Olivia Bennett. She has also won seven of her last eight, and 10 of her last 12 matches this season. The streak has pushed the senior's dual record this season to 13-9 and she is currently 20-15 overall dating back to the fall.
The duo also lead the charge in doubles play, as they have recorded a 14-7 record at number one doubles this spring (20-12 overall). They just had a seven-match winning streak ended in a loss to UAB last week. The Trojans, overall as a team, have posted a 34-30 record in doubles play this spring and 40-41 dating all the way back to the fall. They are also 8-2 this season when winning the doubles point in their match.
Both matches will take place on the University of North Texas campus this weekend, with both matches taking place at 12 noon (Saturday and Sunday).
