Win Streak Continues for Women’s Tennis

TROY ran their streak to six consecutive matches with win over Middle Tennessee

DENTON, Texas (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University women's tennis team continued their winning ways Saturday afternoon on a neutral court as they defeated Middle Tennessee State University, 6-1, on the campus of the University of North Texas.
The win is the sixth consecutive for TROY (11-12) with just one regular season match remaining, that against North Texas on Sunday afternoon.
TROY jumped on top of Middle Tennessee quickly as they captured the doubles point with victories at number one and number three. The Trojans team of Lyubov Dorafeeva and Gabriella Veiga defeated Middle Tennessee's Carla Nava and Alex Dachos, 8-4, at number three to put the Trojans in contention for clinching the doubles point. The point was clinched when the number one team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt bounced back from the first defeat in seven matches, defeating Middle Tennessee's Yuiri Nomoto and Taylor Coffey, 8-6, to give the Trojans a 1-0 overall lead in the match.
With doubles securely in hand, TROY turned to singles play needing just three matches to wrap up their sixth consecutive victory. They quickly jumped ahead 2-0 in the overall match when Rosaura Ramirez-Vega defeated Middle Tennessee's Taylor Coffey at number five singles; 6-1, 6-1. Meanwhile, senior Leonie Guijt ran her personal win streak to seven when she defeated Middle Tennessee's Mariette Bigus at number three singles; 6-2, 6-2.
The Trojans clinched the match when Gabriella Veiga defeated Alex Dachos at number six singles; 6-3, 7-5. The remaining three matches all went three sets, with the Trojans winning two of the three.
At number one singles, Karoline Grymel defeated Middle Tennessee's Yuiri Nomoto; 7-5, 4-6, 6-2; while the final victory of the day for the Trojans came at number two where Olfa Dhaoui defeated Middle Tennessee's Carla Nava 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
The Trojans wrap up the regular season on Sunday against the University of North Texas, before traveling to Mobile for the Sun Belt Conference Championships next week.
