Troy Women’s Tennis Continues Conference Play

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's tennis is 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play following last week's victories over Texas State and Georgia State – prior to this the Trojans defeated Alcorn State and Nicholls crafting a four-match win streak. With the Sun Belt Conference tournament looming, the Trojans carry the second longest win streak in the conference into a weekend homestand against Southern Miss and No. 69 South Alabama.
Coming off a 3-0 week from the No.1 position and leading the charge for the Trojans is Maria Guirguis – dating back to the fall, Guirguis has been victorious in her last 14 matches. Additionally, Leena Metwally is one win away from reaching double digit victories in back-to-back seasons. Valeriia Avdeeva and Alexia Zarate both sit at seven wins on the year.
In doubles play the Trojans are led by the duo of Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva, who are 7-3 this season. Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo have also been a successful team for Troy, boasting a 6-2 record.
Southern Miss enters play 7-6 (1-1), look to bounce back after a 4-0 defeat to Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles are led by the Week 8 Sun Belt Women's Player of the Week Sakura Sudo. Their date with the Trojans marks the fifth and final match of Southern Miss's current road stint.
South Alabama enters play 10-2 after defeating Jacksonville State last Saturday. They're led by Week 9 Sun Belt Player of the Week Rio Maeda. Maeda also earned the Week 9 Doubles Team of the Week award alongside Jana Rovira.
Following Sunday's action, Troy will conference schedule with road matches against Arkansas State and Louisiana. The Trojans will then host Georgia Southern in their final home match of the spring season on April 18.
