TROY, Ala. – The Troy University men's tennis team will be in search of their second consecutive victory when they hit the courts Friday afternoon in Louisiana, taking on the Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Troy (2-11) opened the year with seven consecutive road matches against nationally-ranked opponents, dropping all seven matches. Since those seven matches, the Trojans – who return just three players from last season – have put together a 2-4 mark. That mark includes a 4-3 victory over Florida A&M University at the Lunsford Tennis Complex this past Saturday.
“That last match was a big victory for our team,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “We are starting to see some things from this young team that will get us ready for the stretch run and the conference tournament.”
The Trojans got three singles victories from their returning players on Saturday as Anas Rouchdi won the first match of the season for the Trojans at number one, as he was moved there prior to the match. Junior Branko Weber was re-inserted into his role at number three singles and responded with a victory, as did senior Mario Rolemberg at number five singles.
The Trojans have played two teams from the Sun Belt Conference this season, falling to South Alabama and Florida Atlantic. The Owls match was on the road, and was just two matches ago for the Trojans.
The match will begin at 3 pm in Lafayette, and is one of just four matches remaining on the schedule with the exclusion of the Sun Belt Shootout and the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
