TROY captures three singles matches in loss to Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Troy University men's tennis team lost a heartbreaker Friday evening to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-3, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Cajun Courts.

Louisiana-Lafayette (3-8) captured the doubles point, which ended up being the decisive point in the match, by winning at number one and three doubles. The Ragin' Cajuns won at number one when the team of Yanick Mandl and Brandon Farine defeated Troy's Mario Rolemberg and Branko Weber, 8-2, ending a modest two-match winning streak of the Trojans' team.

The Ragin' Cajuns clinched the match as the number three team of Ted Nilsson and Carlin Murray defeated Troy's Sami Ghorbel and Niklas Jonsson, 8-1. With the doubles point all ready clinched for Louisiana-Lafayette, the Trojans' avoided the sweep when the team of Anas Rouchdi and Jamie Eccleton defeated ULL's Oscar Pachon and Carl Alberton, 8-4.

In singles play, Louisiana-Lafayette needed just three victories to clinch the match and record the victory; however, the Trojans fought to stay in the match needing four wins to clinch.

The Ragin' Cajuns won at the top two slots when Yanick Mandl defeated Troy's Anas Rouchdi at number one singles, 7-5, 6-2; and when Carlin Murray defeated Troy's Jamie Eccelton 6-3, 6-3 at number two.

Meanwhile, the Trojans claimed victories at number three through five singles, led by Branko Weber defeating Robert Voss of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Sami Ghorbel ended a personal losing streak when he defeated Louisiana-Lafayette's Oscar Pachon 6-4, 6-4; while senior Mario Rolemberg claimed a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Carl Alberton.

The final match was at number six where Louisiana-Lafayette's Ted Nilsson claimed a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Niklas Jonsson, handing the Ragin' Cajuns the victory.
