Troy will face Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M in matches this weekend
TROY, Ala. – The 65th-ranked Troy University men's tennis continues to stay in the national rankings due to their strength of schedule after opening the season playing five consecutive ranked opponents. Although the Trojans have dropped all five to higher-ranked opponents, they have made strides in doing so.
Troy (0-5) will face another pair of ranked teams this weekend as they travel to south Florida to take on 38th-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Saturday, February 11. They will then take on 10th-ranked Texas A&M (3-1) on February 13 in College Station, Texas.
So far this season, senior Mario Rolemberg (Salvador Bahia, Brazil) has recorded the only victory for the Trojans in singles play as he defeated Ian Chadwell of Alabama in the Trojans' match on February 5. Rolemberg was able to come away with a straight set victory at number five in that match; 6-1, 6-1.
Meanwhile, in doubles play, the team of Sami Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and Anas Rouchdi (Rabat, Morocco) have recorded the Trojans lone victory in doubles as they defeated the team Ben Recknagel and Mathieu Forget of UC-Santa Barbara. The duo won the match 8-4 back on January 29 in the ITA Kick-Off Classic.
The Trojans will not return home for their first home match until February 23 when they take on South Alabama at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The two matches this weekend will end a string of seven consecutive matches to open the 2011 season for the defending Sun Belt Conference champions. The match on Friday against the Hurricanes takes place at 2 pm (EST) in Miami, while the match on Sunday takes place at 12 noon in College Station.
