Jaycee Affeldt begins her first season as an assistant coach for the Trojans and her second overall season on the Troy coaching staff.
Affeldt, a four-year letterwinner for the Troy softball team from 2012-15, served as the volunteer assistant coach for the Trojans in 2016. She returns to Troy for her second stint after helping lead the UAH Chargers to a Division II NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017 as the pitching coach.
Â
"I am extremely proud to be bringing Jaycee back home to Troy," head coach Beth Mullins said. "Our program is not only getting one of the top up-and-coming pitching coaches in country, but also a great person who loves Troy University and Troy softball. I know her impact will be felt immediately within our pitching staff and our program as a whole."
Affeldt's UAH staff posted a combined ERA of 2.26 with 334 strikeouts. Tyler Harrison was named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Year and named to the South Region First Team with an ERA of 1.86 and 177 strikeouts in 184.2 innings of work.
Â
While at Troy, Affeldt made 130 appearances in the circle with 74 starts, 32 complete games, five shutouts and five saves. Through 539.2 innings, she threw 442 career strikeouts. Affeldt was named the 2015 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year finishing her senior season with a 2.65 ERA. She also earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2015.
Â
"I could not be more excited about returning home to Troy to be the pitching coach," Affeldt said. "Troy holds a special place in my heart, and it's not everyday that people get to return and coach at their alma mater. I am so thankful for coach Mullins giving me the opportunity to give back to the program that gave me so much as a player. I look forward to helping Troy Softball grow on the field and in the community."
Â
The Maple Ridge, B.C. native was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team as well as the NFCA South All-Region team for her performance during her senior season. Affeldt graduated from Troy in 2015 with a degree in broadcast journalism.
