MONROE, La. - Troy improved its winning streak to four games on Thursday with a 6-4 win in the series opener at ULM.
The Trojans (28-26, 16-12 SBC) scored five runs in the first two innings and scored all six of their runs against ULM (26-27, 11-17 SBC) starter Brandt Corley in his 4.2 innings.Â
After two of the first three hitters were put out, Troy tallied four runs on five hits in the opening frame, getting an RBI single from Steven Meier, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Jabe Boroff and a two-run base knock by Sean Darnell. Josh Pyne launched his seventh homer of the season on a solo shot to left in the second, while Boroff was piunked by another pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Left-hander Benjamin Stubbs went 5.2 innings for the Trojans, allowing three earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five. Zach Crotchfelt relieved Stubbs with two on and two in the sixth at a season-high 111 pitches, and the Warhawks knocked in one of the inherited runners on a single by Jake Griffith.
Crotchfelt kept ULM off the board in the eighth, though the Warhawks trimmed the lead to 6-4 after a walk, a passed ball and a two-out RBI single by Jackson Landry. Troy right fielder Drew Nelson nearly made an inning-ending sliding catch on a Griffith single, but he recovered and gunned down Micah Dean at the plate for the final out before Dylan Alonso shut the door with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Quotables
Head Coach Skylar Meade on the offense…
"You came out and threw the first punch. We knew we needed to be good on Corley in the beginning, and we were, especially with two outs. It was all two-out magic. That's a big thing. Sometimes runs can count as more from a momentum perspective when they're with two outs, and I thought our guys did an excellent job of that. Jabe taking the HBPs to get RBIs, which exudes a lot of toughness. Darnell had the good swing. We're going to need a lot more of that tomorrow."
Third baseman Josh Pyne on the hot start...
"Two quick outs in the first inning, and the offense just kept grinding and scratching runs across. It's a great way to start a game. It gets the vibes up."
Next Up
Game two between Troy and ULM is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Lou St. Amant Field.
