MONROE, La. - Troy fell to ULM 12-2 in seven innings on Friday as the Warhawks evened the series at Lou St. Amant Field.

The Trojans (28-28, 16-13 SBC) were outhit 13-6 and trailed 8-1 after three innings as ULM (27-27, 12-17 SBC) lefty JC Dermony tossed a complete game on 140 pitches. Dermony walked five and struck out six as the Trojans scored their only runs on a ground double play in the second inning after loading the bases and a solo homer by Drew Nelson in the sixth.

Troy starter Tommy Egan lasted 2.1 innings, exiting with the bases loaded in the third inning. The right-hander allowed seven earned runs on five hits while issuing a season-high four walks, all of which came in the third. Cooper Ellingworth nearly escaped the inning with what would have been a 4-1 ULM lead, but an infield single on a weak flare that dropped in front of a deeply shifted defense extended the inning, allowing the Warhawks to expand the lead to 8-1.

ULM added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings against Cooper Ellingworth and Brady Richardson before Nate Criswell worked a clean sixth inning. The Trojans had a runner on third with one out in the seventh but were unable to bring him home, keeping the 10-run rule in effect.

Notables

With one game to play, Troy and South Alabama are tied for fourth place at 16-13 in the Sun Belt standings, with the Trojans owning that tiebreaker after last week's series victory. Troy has a one-game lead over Louisiana, Texas State and Old Dominion, all teams the Trojans own series victories over.
Drew Nelson's homer in the sixth inning was his fourth of the season. It traveled 339 feet with an exit velocity of 95 MPH.
Troy has now homered in six straight games. It's the first time the Trojans have done so since April 6-16, 2024.
