Track and Field Dominates at Home With 18 First-Place Finishes

Troy, Ala. – Troy track and field wrapped up two days of competition at home for the Doc Anderson Invitational on Saturday.
On day one, Tayjo Oppong set the tone for the Trojans with the first win of the day in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 53.95m. In the javelin throw, Tyler McKinnell set a new personal best of 61.07m to secure first place.
On the women's side, Whitney Clark threw a season's best 39.79m to earn second place, while Carlee Craft made her collegiate debut in the event with a third-place finish and a mark of 38.82m.
Malik Humphrey won the men's long jump in 7.10m, while Leshawn Clifford finished second in the women's long jump in 5.44m.
On the track, Aaliyah Murphy ran 59.43 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish first, while Macada McDonald finished not too far behind in 1:05.13 to finish fourth overall in her debut as a Trojan.
On the men's side, Jasai Taylor set a personal best 51.84 in the 400-meter hurdles to dominate the field and finish first.
Shanyah Washington ran a blazing 23.99 to win the women's 200 alongside Rachel Whyte who finished second in 24.15. On the men's side, Michael Eady ran a blazing 21.11 to take the victory over his teammate, Milos Nisic, who finished second in 21.62.
Patterson Graham (15:33.98) and Gavan Baxley (15:58.82) took first and third in the men's 5000m to wrap up day one.
On day two, Amir Mersal (14.81m), Kavon Hill (14.62m) and Malik Humphrey (14.38m) swept the top three in the men's triple jump to kick things off for Troy.
Rachel Whyte, Jasmine Jimenez, Aaliyah Murphy and Shanyah Washington ran 45.83 in the women's 4x100 to take the first win of the day on the track.
Pierre Boerkey won the men's 1500-meters in 4:01.63, leading a six man sweep for the Trojans followed by Jonas Koturenka (4:03.61), Keith Warner (4:12.04), Lane Watson (4:14.59), Caden Blackman (4:15.42) and Ethan Newsome (4:16.11).
Faith Jones won her second straight 100-meter hurdle race in a personal best time 13.47. Zamarie Kier also won the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.37.
Shanyah Washington (11.32), Rachel Whyte (11.62) and Imari Johnson (11.86) completed another sweep for the Trojans in the women's 100 meters.
Michael Eady secured his second win of the weekend in the men's 100 in a personal best effort of 10.24, followed by Travis Massey in 10.29, also his personal best.
In the final event of the day, Rachel Whyte, Haley Wilson, Jasmine Jimenez and Aaliyah Murphy finished in 3:43.36 in the women's 4x400. The men's quartet of Jasai Taylor, Ethan Forbes, Devyn Pearman and Dawson Isbell also finished first in 3:11.13 to wrap up the Doc Anderson Invitational.
The Trojans are back in action next weekend at the Dick Roberts Seminole Invite in Tallahassee, Fla on April 10-11.
