Track and Field Closes Sun Belt Championships with Four Titles, Multiple Records

MOBILE, Ala. – Troy track and field wrapped up the Sun Belt Championships on Saturday, headlined by four event wins and eight podium finishes.
The Trojans' 4x100m relay teams set the tone early on in the night, as the men's quartet of Travis Massey, Michael Eady, Tydreke Thomas, and Kasahn Rivers finished second with a season-best time of 39.67, while the women's team of Rachel Whyte, Jasmine Jimenez, Aaliyah Murphy, and Shanyah Washington set a new school record, running 44.78 for a bronze medal.
In the 100m hurdles, Faith Jones ran a 13.48 - just .02 seconds off her personal best - to take home second place in the event.
Rachel Whyte earned Troy's first gold medal of the championships in the 400m, setting a school and facility record with a blazing time of 52.56.
Shortly after, Shanyah Washington medaled in the 100m, running a season-best 11.22 for second place.
On the men's side, Ethan Forbes took home the gold in the 800m with a facility best 1:48.88. The mark was also a Troy record.
It was two in a row for the Trojans, as the very next race saw Aaliyah Murphy go for gold in the 400m hurdles, winning at the line with a time of 58.43 - a facility record and personal best.
Troy's final medal of the night came in the women's 4x400m relay. The Trojan team of Whyte, Murphy, Jasmine Jimenez, and Haley Wilson fended off Southern Miss to win the relay with a time of 3:36.51, a school and facility record in the event.
Select Troy individuals will now turn their attention to the NCAA East First Round, taking place in Lexington, Ky., from May 27-30, with selections announced on Thursday, May 21.
