Troy Claims Multiple Personal Bests at Southern Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Troy cross country turned in several personal-best performances Friday at the Southern Showcase, as the men finished 33rd and the women 37th in a deep field at the John Hunt Running Park.
We had almost the entire squad earn a personal best in the 8k, head coach Brian Cunningham said. They moved up throughout the race and did a good job of competing. The women did a solid job of executing in the heat. We had several personal records, course personal records and folks that returned from injury looking good. Very excited to see how we continue to progress this season.
Junior Caden Blackman led the Trojans, finishing 140th with a time of 25:31.29. Sophomore Lane Watson followed with a 164th-place finish at 25:43.98 for a personal best, while sophomore Patterson Graham came in 225th at 26:10.78 - he also earned a personal best. Junior Keith Warner finished 226th with a time of 26:11.25 in his return from injury, and freshman Ethan Newsome impressed with a 27:08.19 finish, placing 310th. Junior Gavan Baxley (27:09.04) and sophomore Bennett Phillips (27:43.47) rounded out the men's team.
Senior Makenna Calbert led the women's squad with a personal best time of 18:21.03, finishing 114th. Junior Lucy Turley followed with a 256th-place finish in 19:27.65, while sophomore Arianna Elder clocked in at 19:46.66 for 285th. Sophomore Abigail Carr came in 303rd at 19:59.55, and senior Aisley McMeen completed the race in 20:55.27, placing 369th.
