DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Paced by individual leader Brantley Scott, Troy is tied for the lead at the Daytona Beach Invitational following Monday's opening two rounds at the LPGA International Golf Course.
Scott carded a field-best 31 pars on his 36 holes to go along with three birdies and just two bogeys. He shot 1-under in the morning session, carding a birdie on the par-5 14th, one of three Troy birdies on the hole in the round, around 17 pars. He followed with an even-par round in the afternoon.
"It's always nice seeing your team at the top of the leaderboard after day one, but we have a lot of work to do tomorrow to finish the job," head coach Clay Bounds said. "I'm proud of guys for the way they played today. We had some bad holes, but we kept our heads down and put together a lot of pars that really steadied our team score."
Nick Fowlkes is a shot back in a tie for third place following two rounds of even par; he had a pair of birdies in the first round and then added three birdies in the second round.
Troy shot 5-over in the morning and followed with an 8-over in the afternoon to sit tied with host-Stetson for the team lead with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. Florida Atlantic and UNC Wilmington are three shots back in a tie for third, while Campbell is in fifth, four shots back of the leaders.
Pablo Gracia is tied for 27th place at 7-over for the day thanks to a pair of birdies in each of his rounds, while Jake Springer is tied for 32nd place at 8-over par and Lee Poppell is tied for 48th at 11-over.
Play concludes Tuesday beginning at 8:37 a.m.
