Troy Falls in Back-and-forth Contest at ULM

MONROE, La. – The Troy softball team fell in walk-off fashion for the second straight game, losing 8-7 to ULM. The Warhawks (26-13, 7-2 SBC) completed the sweep of Troy (21-16, 3-6 SBC) with a combined run differential of just three.
With the Trojans down to their last out in the seventh inning, Annie Orman blasted a pinch-hit, two-run homer to left field to tie the game up at 7-7. However, the Warhawks walked it off for the second straight game.
Continuing a torrid stretch of games, Taylor McKinney crushed a first-inning homer in the contest. She also drew two walks in the 1-for-2 outing.
Following a three-hit game yesterday, Makaley Boswell had a two-hit effort. The second baseman went 2-for-4, pushing across a run with a single.
The Trojans jumped on ULM ace Maddie Nichols in the first inning – Megan Loftis led off the game with a single, and McKinney annihilated a hanging pitch to left field to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
McKinney's sixth home run of the season extended her hit streak to 15 games. The two-run shot matched her 2024 long ball total.
Troy loaded the bases and forced Maddie Nichols out of the game before she recorded an out. Entering as a pinch hitter, Rebekah Johnson took a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Warhawks scored two in the bottom of the first, getting a few off a Troy throwing error.
In the second inning, Faircloth worked a one-two-three inning to get back on track in the bottom of the frame. She struck out one in the inning.
ULM got another run back in the third, with an RBI single making it a 4-3 game. With two on and two out, Faircloth forced a groundout to end the danger.
McKinney took her second walk of the game in the fourth inning, and Caiden Oliva followed it up by blasting a double to right-center field. Boswell looped a single into shallow right field to push across a run, extending the lead to 5-3.
The Warhawks knocked Faircloth out of the game in the bottom of the inning, taking a walk to start the fourth. Mya Holt entered the game, and ULM was able to take a 6-5 lead with a few hits.
Following a quiet Troy fifth inning, Holt went back out and worked a scoreless frame – she struck out one Warhawk.
The Trojans went down in order in the sixth inning. Esmee Ames stepped into the circle after a fielding error put a runner on for ULM. The Warhawks extended their lead with an RBI double. The Trojans ended the inning on a play at home – Oliva cut down a runner to prevent another run from scoring.
Down to their last opportunity, the Trojans threatened in the seventh. Reaghan Oney drove a single through the left side. Entering as a pinch hitter, Orman blasted a two-run home run to tie the game up.
In the bottom of the inning, the Warhawks walked the game off with an RBI single.
