MONROE, La. โย In the second game of the series, Troy softball fell 6-5 to ULM. The Trojans (21-15, 3-5 SBC) lost another one-run game as the Warhawks (25-13, 6-2 SBC) won in walk-off fashion.
ย
Coming out of the bullpen, Savannah Money (1-4) turned in a gutsy performance, pitching three innings and striking out one, only surrendering one earned run. However, a walk-off single in the seventh inning won the game for ULM.
ย
From the plate, Makaley Boswell was nearly unstoppable. She went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, blasting a game-tying home run in the fifth inning.
ย
Taylor McKinney continued her hot streak with yet another solid performance โ her hit streak now sits at 14 games. The left fielder went 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
ย
After taking seven innings to score yesterday, the Trojans wasted no time getting on the board on Saturday. Reese Green led off the game with a sharply hit single to left field, starting a three-run frame.
ย
Boswell, Reaghan Oney and Kayden Dunn all hit RBI singles in the inning to give Troy the early lead.
ย
Mya Holt shut down the Warhawks in the bottom of the first inning, working around a leadoff single to force three straight groundouts.
ย
Although the Trojans threatened to score again in the top of the second, ULM worked out of the jam. The Warhawks put a few runners on base, but a Troy double play ended the inning.
ย
Following a quiet Troy half inning, ULM cut into the Troy lead with a two-out, two-RBI double off the bat of Hollie Thomas in the third.
ย
Natalie Turner led off the fourth with a hit, but the Trojans couldn't extend their 3-2 lead.
ย
ULM knocked Holt out of the game in the fourth, scoring a run to knot the game up 3-3. The Warhawks scored two more in the inning to take a 5-3 lead to the fifth inning.
ย
The lead was short-lived, as Boswell crushed a two-run home run to left field to tie the game back up.
ย
Savannah Money held ULM scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, with a double play getting Troy out of the inning.
ย
In the sixth, Annie Orman hit an opposite-field, pinch-hit double to get Troy going. With two on and two out, McKinney hit a laser beam that was snagged by the ULM third baseman.
ย
Money worked another scoreless inning, striking out one to send the game to the seventh inning all tied up.
ย
After the Trojans went down in order, the Warhawks quickly put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning. A single and a hit by pitch set up a big spot for Thomas, who hit a fielder's choice to third base. Controversy struck after Troy made an error that rolled into the Warhawk dugout, and after a long review the umpires decided the run didn't score.
ย
With the bases loaded and two outs, ULM hit a single to shortstop to win the game.
ย
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"It was a disappointing inning there and a lot happening at the end. Hats off to ULM as they continue to find ways to take care of business in key moments. I thought we showed a lot of fight offensively โ Makaley Boswell comes to mind. I certainly think we did some things offensively, but some plays got away from us defensively and we didn't execute some pitches. We'll continue to work and get better, and we'll show up tomorrow."
