Gainesville, Fla. – On the second day of the Florida Invitational, Troy softball went 1-1. The Trojans moved their record to 11-8 with a dominant win over Florida A&M and a loss to No. 3 Florida.
Mya Holt tossed a complete game in a 6-1 win over the Rattlers (4-10) as the offense turned in a well-rounded performance. The Gators (21-1) downed Troy 11-2 with a huge first inning.
From the dish, both Makaley Boswell and Taylor McKinney had strong days. Boswell went 1-for-5, drawing two walks and driving in two runs. She hit an RBI triple against Florida and stole a base against the Rattlers.
McKinney went 2-for-6, also driving in a run and hitting a triple, stealing a bag against Florida A&M.
Troy 6, FAMU 1
The Trojans started the day early with a 6-1 win over Florida A&M. Although the offense left some runners on, Troy pushed across plenty of runs – a three-run fourth inning fueled the offense.
Mya Holt (4-2) took a shutout into the seventh inning and ultimately finished the complete game, Troy's second of the season. She earned her first career complete game, striking out two batters and allowing one earned run.
While no Trojan had more than one hit, there was plenty of production from top to bottom in the lineup. Caiden Oliva went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, driving in a run for the third straight game. Entering as a pinch hitter, Rebekah Johnson hit an RBI double in her only at-bat.
The Trojans started off the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning, as Oliva slapped a single to right field to score Makaley Boswell. Holt rolled through the Rattlers lineup to start the game.
In the fourth inning, Reaghan Oney led off the frame with a single. Megan Loftis pinch ran for Oney and stole her seventh base of the season before Johnson crushed her double to left-center field.
Troy extended the lead to 4-0 after McKinnon Howard reached on a bunt single and Boswell hit an RBI groundout. After an error in the fifth inning, Troy made it a 5-0 game.
Taylor McKinney led off the sixth inning with Troy's first triple of the season and her seventh career triple, and Sissy Dunn hit a sacrifice fly two batters later to widen the lead to 6-0.
Although the Rattlers broke up the shutout in the seventh inning with one run, Holt finished the game from the circle.
No. 3 Florida 11, Troy 2
Troy dropped the second game of the day 11-2 to No. 3 Florida in six innings. A huge first inning vaulted the Gators to the win, but Troy went toe-to-toe with the powerhouse for most of the game.
Makaley Boswell finished the game 1-for-3, lining an RBI triple to right field in the contest. Also recording a hit and an RBI against Florida was Taylor McKinney.
Kate Peters had a strong outing in relief, firing 3.1 innings and only allowing only one earned run. She struck out one batter.
Following a one-two-three inning from Florida's pitching, the Gators led off the inning with an infield single from Kendra Falby, the nation's leader in steals heading into the weekend. The Florida speedster tried to swipe second, but Sarah Beth Brake gunned her down.
Falby has been caught stealing only 12 times in her whole career and Brake was the first to throw her out in 2025 – she was 103-for-115 before being thrown out by Troy's backstop.
The Gators were able to strike in the first inning still, hitting a grand slam to take a 4-0 lead. They added another home run to force Esmee Ames (2-2) out of the game in the opening inning. Peters entered the game and got the last out of the inning.
In the second inning, Reaghan Oney pushed her hit streak to nine games with a single to center field, but two straight strikeouts got Florida out of the inning.
Peters pitched a scoreless second inning to bring up the bottom of Troy's lineup. McKinnon Howard hit a single to right field, and Boswell followed it up with a triple to right field to get Troy on the board.
After Troy entered the day with zero triples in 2025, Boswell's three-bagger was the second of the day for Troy. The play cut the Florida lead to 5-1, but the Trojans couldn't score any more as Taylor McKinney had an unlucky, hard-hit double play.
Florida added a run of its own in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-1 and tacked on another in the fourth.
Reese Green led off the fifth inning with a double, and scored after Taylor McKinney bounced a single to third base. The RBI hit cut the lead to 7-2.
Ally Fleck entered the game in the fifth and logged a scoreless inning, striking out one Gator.
However, Florida walked off the game in the sixth inning with a three-run homer to take an 11-2 lead.
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"The day is done fairly early today with a 1-1 record. I thought we found unconventional ways to score runs in the first game and put some pressure on FAMU. We struggled to make adjustments, so we had to play small ball. The nice thing about this team is that we have some speed. Florida is a high level team. Innings two through five I think we played well and went toe-to-toe with them."
