Troy’s Grant Yerger Qualifies for 120th Southern Amateur Championship

TROY, Ala. – Rising Troy junior Grant Yerger qualified for the 120th Southern Amateur Championship after shooting 4-under and finishing third at his sectional qualifier on Wednesday at Tradition Golf Course in Houston, Texas.

Yerger, who earlier qualified for the Texas State Amateur Championship later this summer, shot a 68 to finish a stroke behind a pair tied for first. He, along with the two tied at the top of the leaderboard, will play in the 120th Southern Amateur Championship, July 15-18, at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

"It's an honor to have qualified for such a prestigious tournament, and I am very excited to compete against the highest level of competition and to represent Troy," Yerger said.

It's already been a busy summer for Troy golfers, as Lee Poppell and Lawton Emblom joined Yerger in qualifying for their state amateur championships, while Poppell also advanced to the final round of qualifying for the U.S. Open.
