Troy Soccer Opens 2024 Campaign with Eastern Washington on Thursday

TROY, Ala. - Troy women's soccer opens its 2024 season against Eastern Washington at the Troy Soccer Complex on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
Trojan TidbitsÂ
Stuart Gore enters his second season as Troy's head coach. Gore's first season saw the Trojans double their 2022 win total, improving from three wins to six. Troy's defense also made a massive step forward under Gore, seeing its goals allowed per game average drop half a goal from 1.94 to 1.44.Â
Senior midfielder Gabrielle Chartier returns after scoring seven goals with 15 points during the 2023 season. Chartier is the first Trojan since Kiersten Edlund in 2019 (20 points) to put up 15 or more points in a season. Â
Chartier will captain the Trojans this season alongside senior midfielder Delaney Wells and redshirt junior forward Jiselle Daniels. Wells played the second-most minutes for Troy last season after transferring from Northwestern State where she spent two seasons playing under Gore. Daniels did not compete in the 2023 season after transferring from St. Joseph's but was one of the Hawks' most dynamic players in 2022 with four goals, four assists, 12 points and 40 shots. Â
The Trojans return the bulk of their production from the 2023 season, including 42-of-61 points, 14-of-21 goals and 14-of-19 assists.Â
Five of the Trojans top seven point-scorers from last season are back this year. The group includes Chartier (7 G, 1 A), forward Dolce Villaflor (3 G, 2 A), Wells (3 G, 1 A), midfielder Riley Rojahn (1 G, 3 A) and midfielder/defender Danielle Trovato (3 A). Â
Scouting the OpponentÂ
Thursday will mark the first time that Troy and Eastern Washington will meet on the field. It will also be the Trojans first-ever matchup against a member of the Big Sky Conference.Â
The Eagles finished the 2023 season with a 2-14-1 record and were picked to finish eighth in the Big Sky Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll this fall. Â
