TROY, Ala. – Troy has named Jake Wyman as the program's new women's soccer head coach after he led Montevallo to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and three overall in his career with the Falcons, Director of Athletics Kyle George announced Thursday.
"Coach Wyman is known as an exceptional leader," Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said. "He brings a championship-winning mentality rooted in discipline, and I am confident he will bring unprecedented success to our women's soccer program."
The 2019 Gulf South Coach of the Year, Wyman, led the Falcons to an 78-36-17 record, playing in one of the top NCAA Division II conferences in the country. Under his leadership, Montevallo advanced to the Gulf South Tournament Championship Game in each of the last three seasons and won a tournament title in 2019.
"I'm incredibly excited to welcome Jake and his family to the Trojan Family," George said. "He is an extremely talented recruiter with a proven track record of success in our state. With a championship pedigree and proven success in the postseason, I have no doubt that Coach Wyman will take our program to new heights. The future is incredibly bright under his leadership, and he will be an incredible coach and mentor to our student-athletes. Coach Wyman will make a positive impact on all individuals that he has the opportunity to work with."
Wyman led the Falcons for seven seasons as head coach following a three-year run as an assistant coach. All told, 21 student-athletes earned All-Gulf South honors and 16 earned all-region honors during his tenure at Montevallo. The Falcons' three trips to the NCAA Tournament under Wyman were the school's first appearances in the NCAA postseason since 2008.
"I am truly honored to be part of such an incredible university," Wyman said. "I am so excited to get on campus, start working with the team and start coaching them. I am grateful for Kyle George's belief in me as a coach and for the trust he, Dr. Hawkins, and the administration have poured into us. Morgan and I are humbled beyond words about joining the Troy family and are ready to get stuck into it."
The Falcons set numerous records during his tenure leading the program, including a run of seven straight victories and 11 shutouts during the 2023 season, while their 15 goals allowed were the fewest in program history aside from the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.
Wyman's six winning seasons rank as the most by any head coach in program history, and the 2020 squad posted the best start to a season in Falcons' history, which included victories over three nationally ranked opponents.
Montevallo is coming off a pair of seasons in which it posted a combined 27-13-5 record and made deep runs in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Wyman led the 2019 squad to a Gulf South Tournament championship, the first for the program in 12 seasons. The Falcons posted a 10-2-1 conference record during the regular season, the most Gulf South wins in program history. Wyman was named GSC Coach of the Year for his efforts, while his coaching staff was named the South Region Staff of the Year.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Wyman served as an assistant coach for three seasons (2016-18), which included a run to the GSC title game in 2018.
He joined the Montevallo staff after serving as the director of the Clarksville Soccer Club in Middle Tennessee, in addition to assistant coaching roles at Austin Peay State (2011-14) and Lander University (2008-10).
Wyman played four years at Coker College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science in addition to a physical education degree from Lander University.
A native of Bradenton, Fla., Wyman and his wife, the former Morgan Rudolph, welcomed their first son, Malone, in January 2022.
