Troy Track and Field Travels to Monroe for Sun Belt Championships

TROY, Ala. – Following an impressive regular season this spring, the Troy track and field program travels to Monroe, La., for the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, which are set to start on Thursday and wrap up on Saturday at Groseclose Track at Brown Stadium.
The Trojans last competed two weeks ago at the world-famous Penn Relays and are looking to put together another strong weekend of competition.
At the outdoor championships last season, the men's side finished sixth in team scoring and the women finished 11th. In total, the Trojans brought home four podium placements, including Javon Osbourne's first-place finish in the men's shot put. Cole Stewart brought home second place in the men's javelin, Morgan Reese finished third in the men's hammer and Osbourne finished third in the men's discus.
All three of those Trojans will look to defend their podium placement in their respective events.

The Trojans will open competition on Thursday at 11:15 a.m. as Kady Schwietz and Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente will compete in the women's heptathlon. Also happening on Thursday are the preliminary races for the men's and women's 1500m, 400m hurdles and 200m. The men's and women's 10,000m finals will be on Thursday night.
Troy will also have athletes competing in the men's and women's hammer and javelin on Thursday afternoon and into the evening.
Friday will continue to see a plethora of preliminary races on the track as well as the men's and women's long jump and shot put. Schwietz and Gutierrez Fuente will wrap up the heptathlon on Friday.
The championships will wrap up on Saturday with the finals for 20 track events as well as six field events.
2024 Season Recap
The outdoor season saw the Trojans claim two Sun Belt Athlete of the Week honors. Tydreke Thomas was named the Track Athlete of the Week after posting a 10.26 in the men's 100m at the USF Alumni Invitation on March 16. Stewart was named the Field Athlete of the Week after recording a 70.08m in the men's javelin at the Doc Anderson Invitational on April 13.
The Trojans also finished first in both the men's and women's team competition at the Doc Anderson Invitational – Troy's first home meet in five years – in the middle of April.
