Women’s Tennis Opens Conference Play at Georgia Southern

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Mercer last Saturday, the Troy women's tennis team is back in action on Friday morning as they head to Statesboro to open Sun Belt action against No. 70 Georgia Southern at 9 a.m. CT.
Troy (6-4) has struggled as of late, dropping three of its last four matches. The Trojans will need to improve its doubles play during the conference schedule, as Troy is 4-6 in doubles this season and has dropped the doubles point in four consecutive matches. The Trojans are just 2-4 this season when dropping the first point.
The Trojans will also continue to lean on Leena Metwally and Gabrielle Leslie in singles play. Combined, the duo have put together an impressive 19-1 singles record. Leslie is 10-0 so far this season and has dropped just three sets.
Last season Troy went 6-5 in conference play. It's six conference wins were the most in a season since the 2009-10 campaign when they also won six.
Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles are off to an impressive 11-1 start this season and have won five straight matches. They are ranked No. 70 in the ITA team rankings. They are also undefeated when playing in Statesboro.
The two teams are tied 7-7 in the all-time series. The Eagles have won four of the last five meetings, including the most recent matchup 4-0 in Troy last season. The Trojans last win came in 2022, when they won 4-2.
